Give Me Faith

You know, there are so many sayings out there about how “it’s always darkest before the dawn” as a way of saying, it’s going to get worse before it gets better and in that time you tend to grow (as a person, in faith, professionally, whatever the case may be).  I’m not in a dark place or anything, just have lots going on…

Lots of things going on with the new school year of course and amping up for the fall at church.  Lots going on there as well and with all of that, come fleeting insecurities and doubts.  Enter Andy Stanley, the pastor from North Point Community Church in Georgia and the author of Visioneering, Made to Stick, etc.  Pastor Steven invited him to come speak to some of the leaders tonight and his message couldn’t have been more timely and to be honest, more convicting for me personally.  He was sharing about different kinds of gravitational pulls that can be felt in the church as time goes by and growth happens – to become more complex rather than keep it simple, to forget the outsiders and only focus on the insiders, etc.  At a time when we’re in a transitional phase getting ready for fall, I have been up at night thinking – what’s next?  How are we going to make sure we do this to the best of our ability?  Pastor Stanley brought me down a level with just one question.  What would we/you do if we were back at the beginning?  How would we have done this?  He was referring to the beginning of the church.  With God’s amazing timing, I had the privilege of being around Elevation within the first 3 months of it’s start.  His question brought back a lot of memories – fond memories.  We had to think inside the box and that one question made me realize I need to stop wondering “what if”, but instead go back to the basics.  That’s where you find great systems and creativity.  It also reminded me of The Code at Elevation – the guidelines our ministry is based on (that’s a whole other post – check out the book Orange Code to see where the concept came from).  One of them has been around FOREVER and it smacked me in the face tonight – We think inside the box.  Don’t let limitations squelch your creativity and excellence.

Well, on top of Andy’s awesomeness, we walk out of the auditorium and they give us the new Elevation Worship cd…like 3 weeks early!  That was so unexpected.  What a blessing!  I had to laugh though – you know you have an item that is a hot commodity when you get to your car, rip off the cellophane and the next car over you see someone else doing the same thing and both of you just sit there for a few moments blissfully unaware of the other person as you look through the lyrics while blaring said album.  FYI – one song on the cd is available NOW on iTunes.  They title song from the cd – Kingdom Come – can and should be downloaded ASAP.  Get it here.

Mack, Wade, Chris and London – they always amaze me.  Their talent and heart for the Lord to write lyrics and music that are powerful and relevant to what God is doing here in Charlotte.  There are 3 songs on the album that are really hitting me right now.  Give Me Faith, You Are Enough and This City Is Yours.  They’re ALL pretty much amazing and powerful, things going on right now just have the lyrics of those 3 echoing in my head a lot.

Give Me Faith

I need You to soften my heart

to break me apart

I need You to open my eyes

to see that You’re shaping my life

All I am I surrender

Give me faith to trust what You say

that You’re good and Your love is great

I’m broken inside, I give you my life

I need You to soften my heart

to break me apart

I need You to pierce through the dark

and cleanse every part of me

All I am I surrender

Give me faith to trust what You say

that You’re good and Your love is great

I’m broken inside, I give you my life

I may be weak, but Your spirit’s strong in me

My flesh may fail, but my God you never will

Give me faith to trust what You say

that You’re good and Your love is great

I’m broken inside, I give you my life

I’ll share the other 2 later.  I should really be heading to bed.  Getting used to 5am mornings again is HARD!
